Agua de Jamaica (Hibiscus Flower Iced Tea)

Refreshing, simple, and sweet, yet with a hint of tartness, agua de jamaica is one of the most popular aguas frescas that you will find in Mexico!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups dried hibiscus flower
  • 10.5 cups water, divided
  • 3/4 cup sugar

Instructions
 

  • Rinse dried hibiscus flowers under running water to remove any dust or debris

  • Place flowers in 4 cups water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and continue to simmer for 8-10 minutes.
    10.5 cups water, divided
  • Remove from heat, cover, and steep an additional 30 minutes
  • Strain the liquid into a large pitcher and save flowers for another use or discard
  • Add in sugar and remaining water. Stir to combine.
    3/4 cup sugar, 10.5 cups water, divided
  • Refrigerate for about 2 hours and serve cold
